Way back in the sixties this extract from the vintage VW power boost bible "How to hot rod VW engines", by Bill Fisher. Note the bike chain (;-) !! used to turn the "jimmy" atop of the poor thing 1500 cc.

State-of-the-art ?   Or simple cruelty ?

VW Supercharger.info

Welcome  to the Vw Supercharger.info, a website I created on January 15, 2002. My name is Alejandro Martin, I live in Brussels, Belgium (Europe) and I’ve been involved for some years now with vintage VWs and more specifically with air-cooled VW engines vane superchargers. This website contains a part of the preparation work that took about one year to reach  the layout it had in the days of initial version. More elaborated pages have followed and some other VW related subjects into which I have dedicated years of work and research are now being added in full detail. This website is now over two years old and a few more pages have been added with subjects already presented being further extended in depth.

Dear visitor

Thank you very much for your faithful visit to my website. Some of you visit my site regularly, I do appreciate it. I have also  received messages of VW enthusiasts who asked me to continue unfolding those information pages on supercharging that are under construction.

I have a small showcase in my lounge. Trapped in that glass cubicle are some versions of VW beetle toys, both tin and die-cast. Dinky, Corgi, Totsie, Tekno, Budgie and a rare Micro-models. Although not a VW miniature collector, I do like to watch them. I will post a page with some pics of the most remarkable ones, one of these coming days.

I try my best to come to the site and post new pages, although sometimes it takes ages. Those of you who know me also know that I do hundred things at same time and so you understand my chronic lack of time.

This new update introduced on 7 march 2004.

 The Test

Try to find the result of the operations detailed below. Then check your score against the table.

If your score is between 1 and 5, congratulations ! you are a genius

If your score is between 5 and 10, congratulations ! you are a bit more than a genius

If your score is between 15 and 55, congratulations ! you are a genius too

What comes next ? Now, you may continue to read an interesting text written by Mr. Christoffer Shorrock at a time way back when supercharging engines was more of a deal of try and error. Nowadays computers and CNC machines allied with the progress in metallurgy have made possible to calculate, design and produce superchargers with a yield and a reliability level in operation that was not even envisageable untill the early 70'ties.

You see, there are not many people around who remember a great engineer like him, so I decided to post here a tribute to the vast improvements introduced into the vane superchargers by Shorrock. A long text with some very interesting pictures. Enjoy it !

FEATURING

Have you ever heard about Sgt. Pepco's Lonely Hearts Club Band ? Take a look at this newly posted page.

Almost everyone knows I bought a Kübelwagen in May 2001. It is the Volkswagen I love the most. Now that winter is approaching I will dedicate some more time to this car and I will get serious about putting it back on the road. Take a look at some pictures of the day when I went to collect it some 50 miles from Brussels, and of recent work on the original June 1943 24 hp engine (in working condition). Along the winter I will be posting pictures of the restoration steps.

When I was born this car had already fought a war

and escaped scrapping.

EMPI rules ! Most of the time I cruise the net at full gas without even taking the time to look at the really nice things that are there. Having known his site for years now, having met him personally too, still I hadn't made the tour of all the nice pages he presents. I invite you to discover now his webpages and to dream on piles of real Empi stuff rescued during years of dedication to oldspeed VW. You are welcome to the site of David Mayes
